The identity of the artist is unkown, but local lore attributes it to a Hessian soldier imprisoned in Newport after the American Revolution. Today referred to as Washington Square, The Parade depicts several buildings including the Brick Market, currently the home of the Newport Historical Society's Museum of Newport History and Shop.
